As a part of the ongoing effort to rebuild New Orleans public schools, Crescent City Schools took over Harriet Tubman Charter School, a PreK-8 school in Algiers, in the summer of 2011. Our talented team of educators and support staff prepared for the challenges and rewards of working in a school turnaround environment, and our students are evidence that our hard work is worth it. Tubman exited failing status in October 2013 based upon the state-issued School Performance Scores.
In the summer of 2012, Crescent City Schools added Akili Academy to our portfolio of schools. Founded in 2008, Akili is a K-8 elementary school located in the historic William Frantz building in the Upper Ninth Ward. Akili Academy is one of the highest-performing non-selective elementary schools in New Orleans and joined the Crescent City Schools network as a way to continue that record of success.
In December 2012, Crescent City Schools was awarded the charter to take over Paul Habans Elementary School in Algiers. Paul Habans Charter School opened under the management of Crescent City Schools in summer 2013 and serves grades PreK-8.
