The Crescent City Schools network enjoyed a Back-to-School Party on August 11 held at Rock ‘N Bowl in Mid-City. The event was hosted by the charter management team and included all faculty, staff, and their families from Harriet Tubman Charter School, Akili Academy of New Orleans, and Paul Habans Charter School. The event signaled a significant milestone, marking the first network-wide gathering since Habans joined the organization on July 1.
CEO Kate Mehok welcomed the group and encouraged them to embrace the opportunity to meet their peers from other schools within the network, to share ideas and stories. She also reflected on how the organization has grown since its inception in 2010.
“When co-founder Julie Lause and I started this a few years ago, I don’t think either of us could have imagined standing before a group of 200 people, working with us in three schools,” she said. “The work we do is the best work there is, and we are so proud to have you as part of our network.”
Board Chair J.P. Hymel also spoke briefly and praised the work of the faculty and staff at each school. “Your work is so important, and we hope you have a great year,” he said.
After a cheer competition led by Tubman Principal Julie Lause, Akili Principal Julie MacFetters, and Habans Principal Litouri Smith, the group enjoyed bowling, music, and snacks.
