Charita Sellers is the 6-8 Director of Curriculm and Instruction at Paul Habans Charter School. Charita graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She then began her educational career by teaching Reading in Orlando, Florida to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Within the 4 years of teaching in Orange County Florida, she met and surpassed her student learning target, set by the district, each year, as well as lead professional development to content area teachers on implementing Reading across the curriculum.
In 2011, Charita moved back to the Northeast Louisiana area and educated students in Morehouse Parish until 2015. Within this time frame, she and colleagues from Sage Group America, a consulting company in which she served as Reading Director for ACT and Compass, went before the Morehouse Parish School Board to lobby for the local High School to offer Career Ready 101 to all juniors. She and colleagues were successful and became the 2nd parish in the state of Louisiana to offer the curriculum in schools. Charita served as ACT & Career Ready Coordinator for the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 school year as well as the Chair of the Emerging Workforce Community in Morehouse Parish. Also, in Morehouse Parish as an 8th Grade ELA teacher, Charita was in the 70th percentile among teachers in the state for students –receiving free and reduced lunch- scoring Basic and above as well as in the 90th percentile for students with accommodations scoring Basic and above.
In 2015, Charita moved to the Baton Rouge area and attained a Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership and in 2016, Charita served as an Instructional Coach for Social Studies and ELA teachers.
