Mariko Kawate is the K-1-2 Assistant Principal at Harriet Tubman Charter School. In the summer of 2011, Mariko Kawate joined the founding staff at Harriet Tubman Charter School. Since then, Mariko has taught and been team leader of the K-1-2 team, taught 3rd grade math, served as the 3-4 team leader, and as the K-1-2 Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
As 3rd grade math teacher, 79% of her scholars achieved Basic on the iLEAP test. As team leader on the K-1-2 team, she helped pilot the Montessori program in our K-1-2 grades and has seen increasing MAP scores in her classroom and the whole team as a result of her work.
Mariko received a B.S. in Elementary Education from Grace College, Winona Lake, Indiana, and her master’s degree from Relay Graduate School of Education in 2015. She completed her student teaching at a Title I school in Warsaw, Indiana and an international school in Tokyo, Japan.
