3-4 Team Leader, 3rd Grade Science, Blue Campus
Allie Malcolm joined the Harriet Tubman staff in her fifteenth year of teaching. She grew up in Connecticut, earning B.A.s from the University of Connecticut in Sociology and Spanish and a M.S. Ed in Elementary Education from Southern Connecticut State. She was initially attracted to education by her desire to work for social justice, and that same intention grounds her approach today. Allie has taught every elementary grade level and core subject, and during the summers has coached and supported beginning teachers in different cities through Teach For America and TeachNOLA. She spent several years writing and developing elementary ELA curriculum to share nationally as states adopted the Common Core State Standards. She served as a mentor teacher for participants in the Relay Graduate School of Education’s Teaching Residency Program. Before joining Tubman, Allie achieved KIPP New Orleans’ Master Teacher distinction, an accomplishment reserved for the network’s top 12% of educators as measured by her students’ mathematics achievement and peer and parent satisfaction ratings. She is passionate about the complexity of teaching and learning, and she delights in collaboration with colleagues who elevate the profession. Allie decided to set down roots and raise her family in New Orleans because of the incredible sense of community among her students’ families, her fellow educators, and her neighbors.
