Bridget Coverick is the Director of Special Education for Crescent City Schools. Bridget earned her bachelor’s degree from Purdue University with honors, where she studied Anthropology and Creative Writing with minors in Classics and Religious Studies. She began her teaching career as a corps member in Teach for America at G.W. Carver High School in New Orleans. She embraced the Carver community and worked there for a decade. She found her passion for serving students with diverse needs and moved from teaching humanities courses into special education before moving into the role of Manager of Special Education Compliance. In her 5 years in the leadership role, she worked diligently to develop expertise and a culture of collaboration to improve student self advocacy and achievement. During this time, G.W. Carver earned the top ranking from the Louisiana Department of Education for progress made by students with disabilities and earned the title of Top Gains Honoree for student growth from the New Orleans Public School Board twice.
As a fellow in the Louisiana Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LA LEND) program, Bridget broadened her perspective on disabilities and learned about disability across the lifespan. This, in addition to an influential family mentorship program where she worked with a family who had a young child with autism, led her to pursue opportunities to work with students at a younger age. She joined the Crescent City Schools team in 2024 and is excited to continue to serve students with disabilities.
